Do You Know What to Look for?

The Kings Oak Hospital in Enfield and The Garden Hospital in Hendon took part in this year’s global Lung Cancer Awareness Month.

November was the month for Lung Cancer Awareness.  This is the fifth year Macmillan Cancer Relief has joined forces with the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, to help raise awareness of the symptoms of lung cancer across the UK.

The hospitals will be displaying leaflets and posters produced by Macmillan Cancer Relief, telling you what to look out for and encouraging people to seek medical help, ensuring the best chance of cure.

The main symptoms of lung cancer are:

  • Chest infections that won’t go away, even with antibiotics.
  • Having a cough for more than three weeks.
  • Feeling more tired than usual.
  • More spit or phlegm, especially with blood in it.
  • Feeling very out of breath.
  • Losing your voice but with no sore throat.
  • Chest pains.
  • Swelling in your face or neck.
  • Losing weight, but not sure why.

There are lots of reasons why you might have some of the symptoms above.  But it’s worth getting yourself checked out because whatever it is, your GP will be able to help.

The Kings Oak Hospital has a dedicated oncology team, supported by a Macmillan Nurse.

If you have any health concerns please visit your GP for further information.
