Bone Densitometry

Osteoporosis is a silent disease that can be easily diagnosed with a simple procedure called a DEXA bone scan, available at The Kings Oak Hospital. You don't even need a GP referral.

The scan will measure bone density and bone loss and provides the best indication as to whether any treatment is required.

Bone loss increases with age, starting around the mid-life. The menopause is the single most important cause of osteoporosis.

However, the condition can occur in anyone whose bone loss exceeds bone formation and can affect younger women too.
